La Luce 2-14-2004
Valentine's day. Awww! I was looking forward to today because Beth and I where going to go out for valentine's day. We hadn't had a chance to
go out to eat at nice places as much as we would like and so tonight we of course would. I made reservations for a place called Le Luce. Thanks to my
friend Vic who had a reception there after she renewed he wedding vow with her husband, I knew this would be a great place to go.
So anyway I headed over to Beth's house to go out for the evening where we exchanged presents. I got her a bottle of Syrah from Bin36 and some
flower from wall's, a flower shop down the block from my apartment. Beth got me a record called The Modern Jazz Sextet but more on that later. We
decided to dress up a bit for the evening and Beth looked just fabulous. Our reservations where a seven and we had a little time to kill so Beth
arranged her flowers into a vase and put them out of reach from Strega, her plastic and flower eating cat. Then we headed out for Le Luce.
Le Luce is a great little restaurant that features Italian food. Its located in
Chicago at 1393 W Lake street. Le Luce has a great menu and good wine with reasonably priced dishes. Beyond that it has a cozy and romantic
atmosphere which is perfect for dining with a significant other or a group of friends. I recommend checking this place out on Monday as it has half
price wine on that day. Beth had the Gnocchi with asiago cheese sauce and I had the fettuccine Alfredo, we shared a bottle of chianti. For those of
you who don't know Gnocchi is a potato dumpling that sort of melts in your mouth while you eat it. For desert we had Banana's Le Luce which is sort of
a very tasty banana split that exploded yum! There was to much for either one of us to finish so we got the rest to go and went on our way.
Now back to my present. The Modem Jazz Sextet supervised by Norman Granz. This album featuring dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Stitt, John Lewis, Skeeter Best,
Percy Heath, and Charlie Persip is a great up beat jazz ensemble. I've only had a chance to listen to it a few times but I get around to playing it
some more. Besides being a great record, the album cover is designed by David Stone Martin who did the cover art for many a jazz album. I want to
collect more of the albums Martin design. Lucky enough for me Beth picked up on that fact and got me that album. Thanks baby!
